At Kansas schools, cuts to budgets are adding up - MARÁ ROSE WILLIAMS, The Kansas City Star

More jolting tuition hikes are ahead, along with larger class sizes, bumped teachers and junked programs. Gov. Mark Parkinson’s announcement Monday of a fresh $2 million slice from higher education salted the wounds of educators. “In itself, spread over the entire higher education system, $2 million probably wouldn’t have a dramatic effect on tuition, but it’s the accumulation of cuts,” said Gary Sherrer, a member of the Board of Regents. The higher education budget already has lost $100 million this year, which prompted the regents to raise tuitions.
