UC students protest tuition increase - Saba Hamedy, Boston University Daily Free Press

University of California students continue to protest the UC Board of Regent’s announcement earlier this month of an overall 32 percent increase in undergraduate fees. Students from California will pay $10,302 in the equivalent of tuition starting in fall 2010, in an increase that comes soon after state budget cuts threatened the school system’s well-being, The New York Times reported in a Nov. 19 article. Funds generated from the tuition hike will be distributed at the discretion of each individual university in the system, specifically to offset the negative effects of state budget cuts, according to the UC Board of Regents’ website.
