Some Colleges Anticipate Enrollment Drop, Decreased Economic Impact - Justin Quesinberry, DigTriad
Higher tuition at four-year colleges and universities has some students choosing community college for two years. Enrollment is the largest source of income for schools, according to Guilford College President Kent Chabotar. While his school's enrollment is up this semester, to 2,614, he expects it to decrease next semester. About 50,000 students attend college in our region, according to the Greensboro Partnership. But, with possible fewer students and more budget cuts, college employment is impacted. Guilford College eliminated the equivalent of 20 full-time positions last fall in anticipation of a dip in enrollment. Greensboro College, Winston-Salem State University and Wake Forest University are local school with hiring freezes.
