University of Maine System To Require Furloughs - WMTW

The University of Maine System reached a tentative agreement with employee unions to require hourly employees to take two furlough days. Under the agreement, the days off, without pay, must be taken before June 30, 2009. In exchange for agreeing to the furlough days, UMS agreed not to implement any further layoffs or scheduled reductions between now and June 30th. The university system also agreed to offer an early retirement incentive to employees who are at least 60 years old and have worked for at least 20 years before June 30, 2009.
