Budget Woes Go From Bad to Worse - Andrew Bauer, Ft. Hays University Leader

Fort Hays State University’s budget situation may be going from bad to worse if revenue projections hold true, said Fort Hays State University President Edward H. Hammond at an open forum yesterday. About 30 faculty positions will be eliminated for next year, 15 of which are empty. The Kansas legislature approved a budget bill that included a 7.3 percent cut for FHSU’s funding. However, the state revenue estimates for next year were released Friday, and income is expected to drop significantly, meaning the state will likely be making more cuts to higher education.
