College cuts are going too deep - Daily Comet, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana

Nicholls State University could lose up to $5.3 million in state money next year. That was the word last week from Gov. Bobby Jindal’s proposed 2009-10 budget. If that budget passes as it stands, Nicholls will be under a terrific strain to keep offering the same impressive educational services the people of this area have come to expect. Nicholls officials already had to trim $1.5 million from its budget this year, the fallout of midyear cuts applied to the state’s higher education as a whole.
