A year ago, Arizona's university system was celebrating record enrollment, a new medical school in Phoenix and a key role in the Phoenix Mars Mission. Graduation and retention rates were up. Students were finishing college faster. The state Legislature was giving the universities more money each year. Now, Arizona's three state universities - Arizona State University, University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University - are struggling to maintain quality and access in the face of record state funding cuts. At the same time, demand for a college degree has never been greater.
