Economy brings rise of in-state college applicants - Kathleen O'Brien, Star-Ledger

A mood of financial caution has produced a bumper crop of incoming freshmen for New Jersey's public colleges and universities. The avalanche of applications public colleges saw over the winter - some were up as much as 40 percent - leveled off in the spring. Yet most colleges ended up with a larger and stronger pool of applicants.
