No more California dreamin' - Caille Millner, San Francisco Chronicle

As for the University of California, it may as well privatize: as an example, the plan calls for cutting state funding for UC's Hastings College of Law from $10 million to $7,000. Union members have started their protests and their vigils. At UC Santa Cruz, more than 100 students and staff have launched a hunger strike. The usual suspects from the usual groups, have fired off their press releases and scheduled their public meetings, to "denounce" the "severity" and "catastrophe" of the cuts. They are right, but there is nothing they can do. And, for the sake of California, I hope that the governor and the Legislature ignore the cries of protests and enact the cuts.
