An unprecedented enrollment growth combined with budget cuts is stretching the Colorado community college system “to the limits,” according to local educators. Community colleges in Colorado this August are looking at a 30-percent increase over last year in the number of enrolled students. But at the same time, the recession has caused the state to reduce funding to the community college system by 17.5 percent, with an additional 10.5-percent cut expected mid year.
