Budget includes cuts to higher ed, UM programs - Janese Heavin, Columbia Tribune
Tribune political reporter Terry Ganey explains Gov. Jay Nixon's budget proposals in today's Tribune, but here are some take-aways for those particularly interested in higher ed. As previously agreed upon upon, Nixon is proposing a $42 million cut to four-year institutions, which will mean a $21 million loss to the UM System. That's a cut to core education funding. On top of that, the FY2011 budget recommendations include cuts to University Hospital, MOREnet and the state historical society, all UM functions. Next year's allocation reflects the actual amount those entities are receiving this year after Nixon slashed their budgets mid-year by 25 percent.
