The University System of Georgia already has made the easy spending cuts by deferring hiring, cutting travel and eliminating training. Now it’s time to get creative, system Chancellor Erroll Davis said Tuesday in his annual State of the System message to the Board of Regents. Davis called on the presidents of the system’s 35 colleges and universities to help the board come up with innovative ways to survive a financial crunch that has seen the system hit by $323 million in budget cuts – a 13.1-percent reduction since fiscal 2009 – while adding 40,000 students during the last three years.
