SCSU looks for budget solutions, prepares for reductions - David Unze, St. Cloud Times

St. Cloud State University is preparing for budget reductions of as much as $7 million next fiscal year, and its bargaining units have been told layoffs are being considered. President Earl H. Potter III told faculty and staff in his convocation address Thursday he hopes the university can make it through the challenging financial times ahead without layoffs. But with little direction from the state regarding future funding, he said, it's difficult to know exactly how much St. Cloud State's appropriation will be cut. And university leaders are required to inform bargaining units when layoffs are being considered, something the university did last fiscal year when one person was laid off.
