Layoffs look likely for some UGA units - Lee Shearer, Athens Online
Most University of Georgia workers won't have to fear layoffs this year, according to UGA President Michael Adams - with one exception. About 34 percent of the University of Georgia’s budget came from the state this year — down from 46 percent just eight years ago, according to UGA President Michael Adams. Gov. Sonny Perdue has proposed steep midyear budget cuts for UGA-affiliated units such as the Cooperative Extension Service and UGA Agricultural Experiment Stations throughout the state, Adams said Friday in a sparsely attended budget briefing for university workers and students, and some workers in those jobs are likely to be laid off.
