Cutting through bone - Rome News-Tribune

When GEORGIA Highlands College President Randy Pierce told faculty and staff at the Rome college, “… (t)here is no fat. We can’t do this… ” he was no doubt reflecting the anguish seen on public college campuses across the state.
Pierce, presenting what he called a worst case scenario, on Friday detailed the college’s plans to cut another $2.4 million from its budget. The proposed cuts at GHC, which are based on the General Assembly’s demand that the cut between $200 million and $300 million from the FY 2011 budget, amount to close to a quarter of the Rome college’s budget for FY 2011.
Systemwide, the impact would be the same as closing 23 of the 35 units of the University System, Chancellor Erroll B. Davis Jr. told Georgia lawmakers.
