It wasn't just rain that darkened skies over the University of Georgia campus last week. It also was the collective dampened spirits of thousands of UGA workers who faced the prospects of pay cuts and layoffs as University System of Georgia administrators and legislators argued back and forth over just how big a new round of budget cuts would be - and what would happen afterward.
State legislators said two weeks ago that the university system budget might have to be reduced an additional $300 million next year, on top of $265 million in cuts already planned.
