University announces plan to cut required $45.5 million from budget - Andrea Hammer, the Exponent
The University announced Tuesday that it will be using deferred hiring, cuts in operations and facility maintenance and energy conservation to cut the $45.5 million required by Gov. Mitch Daniels from the budget. Of the cut, $35.8 million is coming from the West Lafayette campus. “It has not been easy, but it was necessary,” Purdue President France Córdova said in a press release. “By calling on all segments of the University to sacrifice, we have been able to meet the governor’s demand without affecting student education or our research enterprise. We have held job losses to a minimum and have not cut salaries to meet this challenge.”
