Missouri Virtual School to close at end of May - Didi Tang, News-Leader

After losing money year after year, Missouri Virtual School, which offers distance classes for Missouri's rural high schools under the auspices of Missouri State University, is shutting down at the end of May. Four full-time employees will lose their jobs, and 13 part-time instructors will see their teaching contracts discontinued. Belinda McCarthy, the university provost, said MSU can no longer financially support the program, especially in a time of budget challenges. "We've not been able to generate enough revenue," she said. In her office, she produced a summary of revenues and expenses for Missouri Virtual School, or E-High School.
