Kean University track and field head coach Mike Penta had heard the rumors that his program would be dismantled. A photographer at one of his meets brought it up before Penta had heard anything. Opposing coaches would ask him weekly. All the while, Penta said, he was in the dark.
“We’d asked three times, between both athletic directors,” Penta said. “We got no straight answer.” Kean sent a letter to its students this past weekend announcing the disbandment of its track and field program.
