Layoffs help Yale meet goals for budget - Mary E. O’Leary, New Haven Register

It’s small comfort to those who may have just lost their jobs, but Yale University Thursday said it is largely finished issuing pink slips to meet its budget goals for next year.“The overwhelming majority of the layoffs required to reach our fiscal 2011 budget targets have now been completed,” said Michael Peel, vice president for human resources and administration at Yale.Peel said layoffs are expected to effect less than 100 workers, which is about 1 percent of the 8,900-member staff. The number would have been higher, but close to 150 workers opted to leave voluntarily to take advantage of enhanced severance for longterm workers.
