There's no particularly pleasant way to talk about California's budget crisis, but it has inspired some positive thinking at City College of San Francisco.
Make no mistake: The two-year commuter campus, saddled with an $18 million cut in state funds last year and an expected shortfall as high as $12 million next year, faces an uphill climb.
Salaries have been frozen or cut. Academic counseling hours were trimmed. About 1,500 classes were canceled for the 2009-10 academic year.
