For adults tackling the challenge of learning English, the Listening and Speaking Center at De Anza College is an important ally on their journey to mastering one of the world's most complex languages. Like most educational institutions, the Cupertino community college is facing severe budget cuts and recently conducted a mass reorganization of its services As a result, the Listening and Speaking Center will have less programming and staff in the future. Mary Anne Ifft, who heads the LSC, says it will likely lose most of its teaching staff and assistants. She will lose her full-time status as well. "We're just living day by day trying to figure out what we can save and how we can move forward. There is no other thing of its kind," Ifft says of the center.
