Gov. Steve Beshear's veto of an obscure provision in the state budget has dealt a financial blow to University Hospital in Louisville by eliminating about $16 million a year in Medicaid funds the state previously had provided, according to hospital officials. "Any way you slice it, it's a significant financial hit to us,'' said Ken Marshall, chief operating officer for the hospital, which serves as a regional trauma center and provides much of the community's indigent care. "We know it's going to affect most likely our trauma mission, how we carry out our historic mission to care for the uninsured."
