U of I Copes with Budget Cuts - Susie An, WBEZ Chicago

The University of Illinois and other state colleges will receive $100 million less this academic year from the state.Governor Pat Quinn has pledged to make more than $1 billion in cuts to the state budget, some of that hitting state universities.University of Illinois spokesman Thomas Hardy says the cuts to higher education didn't come as a surprise, and the school braced itself. "The less support that the university, any university gets from the state, the more pressure it puts on the tuition number in order to maintain quality." Hardy says that's a loss of about $45 million of state money.
