College of Marin seeks solutions to $1.2 million deficit - Rob Rogers, Marin Independent-Journal
College of Marin officials are considering cutting summer session classes or reducing the number of part-time instructors to plug an expected $1.2 million hole in next year's budget. "We're making a sincere effort to be open to looking at possibilities that will still maintain what you would call being fiscally responsible," said Eva Long, president of the college Board of Trustees. "At this time, we're looking at some difficult choices." Officials say the budget shortfall is the result of a decline in property tax revenues - the college district's primary source of income - and the state Legislature's decision to cut $1.3 million from the college's categorical funds last year.
