Georgia State study shows budget shortfalls in future - John Koch, Atlanta Democrat Examiner

Long-term budget shortfalls await Georgia, according to a new study out of Georgia State University. According to reporting on the study, the next few years could be marked by budget shortfalls between 1.5 and 2.1 billion dollars. This could lead to massive cuts in education and other state priorities, as the Georgia Constitution mandates a balanced budget. Leaders in the State House are studying the situation, but they seem to not take the situation seriously. Republican leaders want a solution that is will not increase the money coming into the state's coffers, missing the point of the situation. If the House leadership will not increase taxes then the only option is to cut services, in a state that has already seen education cuts and raised tuition.
