UT, A&M offer buyouts to reduce faculty - JEANNIE KEVER, HOUSTON CHRONICLE
The state's two largest universities are offering buyouts for tenured faculty this fall as they prepare for state budget cuts expected to slice millions of dollars from their budgets. The University of Houston may do so, as well. Carl Carlucci, executive vice chancellor for administration and finance at UH, has asked the human resources staff to look at the programs offered by the University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University before deciding whether to recommend that UH follow suit. With about 37,000 students, it is Texas' third-largest school, The details vary, but eligible faculty could receive between one and two years salary in exchange for quitting early.
