Wash. State Univ. head details reorg amid cuts - NICHOLAS K. GERANIOS, Business Week
Washington State University president Elson S. Floyd said eliminating three vice president positions and combining several departments is the best way to deal with millions of dollars in state budget cuts. Floyd said he believes streamlining management is the best approach. The university is already dealing with a 2010-11 budget reduction of $13.5 million. "I am making the best decision I possibly can in an incredibly difficult environment," Floyd said. He estimated immediate savings from this reorganization between $700,000 to $900,000. The position of vice president for development, which is vacant, will be eliminated, as will the vice president for university relations and vice president for student affairs.
