NU budget director outlines impact of state funding cuts - KEVIN ABOUREZK / Lincoln Journal Star

The University of Nebraska could be facing a $78 million budget shortfall in the coming years should it be forced to make 10 percent in cuts as suggested by some state leaders, regents were told Friday. Chris Kabourek, NU budget and planning director, told the regents that if the university were required to cut 10 percent from its budget during the 2012 and 2013 fiscal years, major reductions would be needed in NU's programs and personnel. Gov. Dave Heineman and legislators have asked all state government departments to suggest how to cut 10 percent from their budgets as a result of falling tax receipts, though state leaders haven't yet mandated that level of budget cutting.
