State Budget Issues May Block Spring Enrollments at Cal State - Michelle Cormier, Transcript
Although California State University is currently accepting applications for the 2011 spring semester, system officials announced that spring enrollments are only possible if the state budget restores education funding for student services, reports the Los Angeles Times. The proposed state budget would restore $305 million from previous cuts and include $60.6 million to expand enrollment at the university system. If the funds are not approved, students will be refunded their application fees or have their applications roll over to the fall term. Cal State's 23 campuses typically enroll about 30,000 new students, mostly transfers, during the spring. Last year, the system was forced to suspend spring admissions to offset a $625 million state budget shortfall.
