State budget cuts threaten library databases - ETHAN MARLER, the Collegian
Texas libraries, including the University's Moody Library, are bracing themselves for the effects of funding cuts proposed in the Texas Legislature's recent House Bill 1. The bill reduces funding to TexShare, a consortium administrated by the Texas State Libraries and Archives Commission. Many Texas libraries banded together in order to access online and electronic materials at a reduced price. The bill dictates that the program transfers any government funding to the TexShare membership costs. According to Moody Library director Ann Noble, TexShare membership prices have increased from around $5,000 to $7,500, this is a 35 percent increase from the original fee.
