USI becomes 7th Indiana state college to raise tuition - Dan McFeely, Indianapolis Star
The 10,700-student University of Southern Indiana in Evansville on Tuesday became the seventh and final Indiana school to announce a tuition increase. And, like all but one other college, USI plans to raise tuition higher than recommended by the state's Commission for Higher Education. USI officials plan to increase tuition by 4.5 percent next year and 5 percent the following year. That would exceed the state-recommended cap of 3 percent. In real dollars, tuition for full-time in-state students will rise from $5,600 to $5,852 beginning this fall and then jump to $6,145 in 2011-12. USI officials say the increases will help fund more full-time faculty and strengthen its academic programs.
