Oakland University trustees OK 7% tuition increase; leader blasts lawmakers for plan to cut aid - DAVID JESSE, Detroit Free Press
Oakland University's Board of Trustees approved a 7% tuition increase Wednesday, even as its leader blasted the state Legislature for planning to cut state aid to universities and creating the need to raise revenue. "They don't know anything about these schools," said Chairman Henry Baskin. "They haven't even looked at our contractual commitments. I'm looking at this and saying it's draconian and hoping next year isn't worse." OU's tuition will increase to $10,399 for resident undergraduate students. Student representatives to the board said they thought students wouldn't like the increase but would understand the need.
