University of Minnesota budget proposal raises tuition and fees - Doug Belden, Pioneer Press

The University of Minnesota would use tuition and fee revenue to make up about a third of a total budget challenge of $130 million next year, according to a proposal to be reviewed by the Board of Regents next Friday. U President Bob Bruininks is recommending regents approve a "provisional" $3.7 billion budget plan for next year, since the Republican-led Legislature and Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton have not yet agreed on an overall state budget. U officials figure they need to find $130 million to make up for a $70.8 million cut in current allocations combined with $58.9 million in anticipated increased costs.
