Official: Conn. community colleges won't close - Associated Press

Connecticut's new higher education leader says none of the state's 12 community colleges will close, despite budget cuts and a plan to revamp the way they are run. Michael Meotti told trustees of the Connecticut Community Colleges system on Monday that state leaders recognize the schools' important missions. However, he could not promise the enrollment would always remain open to all applicants on its current first-come, first-served basis. He said it might someday depend on economic constraints, incoming students' abilities and whether programs are available to help unprepared students catch up.
