After tuition decision, MSU critics remain - Beau Hayhoe, the State News
In an already-tense battle between state lawmakers and MSU officials, a steadfast group of House Republicans blasted top university administration members last week, just hours after state budget director John Nixon found the school in compliance with the state’s tuition increase ceiling. State Rep. Bob Genetski, R-Saugatuck, accused university finance officials of displaying a lack of integrity when voting to increase tuition for this fall, claiming the school deceived lawmakers in an attempt to blow by state tuition guidelines. “A lot of schools did the right thing without having to bring in lawyers and accountants to figure that out,” Genetski said. “Obviously, I’m very frustrated and disappointed in the bureaucracy at MSU.”
