Fayetteville State University trustees review budget, cuts in staff - Steve DeVane, Fay Observer
Fayetteville State University lost more than 100 staff positions because of state budget cuts, school officials said Friday. FSU trustees heard about the school's finances during a retreat at the school. Chancellor James Anderson talked about his first three years at the school and his expectations for the future. Trustees also briefly discussed a suggestion made by several students to change the school's name to the University of North Carolina at Fayetteville. Carlton Spellman, FSU's director of budgeting, told trustees that the school lost about $8.4 million in state funding this year. The cuts meant a decrease of 109 positions, he said.
