Kutztown Univ lays off 11 employees due to budget reduction - Jason Brudereck, Reading Eagle

Eleven Kutztown University employees have been laid off as part of 47 mostly vacant positions that have been eliminated to reduce KU's 2011-12 budget by $3.8 million to make up a shortfall, the university announced Thursday. The shortfall was the net result of an 18 percent reduction in state appropriations coupled with a 7.5 percent tuition increase approved by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education board, the university said in a statement. Budget reductions included eliminating the 47 positions ($1.9 million), lowering expenditures through retirements ($700,00) and savings from previously announced academic reductions ($1.2 million).
