Two years ago, MTSU received $101 million in state funding, but that amount plummeted to about $70.5 million this school year, as part of the university's overall budget of roughly $400 million. The university embarked on a campus campaign to involve staff, faculty and students in the budget-cutting process over the last two years, enabling it to cut expenses without doing "irreparable damage," McPhee said. "Unfortunately, we've been so good at doing these cuts, it goes unnoticed," he said.
