Northern Kentucky University is facing a $340 million budget deficit if additional funding is not obtained, President James Votruba announced at the Nov. 9 Board of Regents meeting. He explained that $64 million is needed next year and $152 million over the next six years.
He explained that NKU is “greatly underfunded” and has already cut full-time teachers and $7 million in maintenance expenses. There is a current $340 million deficit for the university.
The Council own Postsecondary Education proposed a $7 million budget increase for maintenance and operation readiness for next year. NKU is below the national benchmark, even though its revenues have increased by $12 million. There will be $64 million dollars needed in the next year to fund NKU, and $152 million in the next six years.
