Budget cuts loom at S.C. State University - GENE ZALESKI, Times and Democrat

South Carolina State University is considering a range of budget cuts to make up for an estimated shortfall of almost $4 million. "This is very serious," trustee Maurice Washington said. "We are not bankrupt but this is a very serious matter. "I believe the fact that we are not speaks volumes to the good work of (the) Finance (Committee) over the past multiple years, but we could very well have been." During a meeting of the board's Budget, Facilities and Grounds Committee on Thursday, Washington said revenues through Jan. 24 were down $8.5 million in the Education and General budget. It is primarily funded through state appropriations and student tuition and fees.
