Public Universities facing steep budget cuts - Miguel Sanchez, News Examiner

Knightnews.com reported a possible 35% cut in funding for the University of Central Florida (UCF) 2012-2013 school year. Senator J.D. Alexander introduced the proposed budget in Tallahassee, as part of other adjustments to Florida’s public universities. If approved, it would create a $76.9M deficit that would fall on the shoulders of the UCF students who pay the tuition. Yet, this comes in second to the proposed cut of 58.2% and a $103.8M that threatens to be imposed on University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa. Many UCF students do not think the budget will be approved. At this point, it’s just that, a proposed budget cut. The blow back from USF Camus has been significant. “If we need to adjust by a few million dollars to get it fairer, then we can reallocate to the other institutions,” said Senator J.D. Alexander. It’s taking from Peter to pay Paul, so to speak.
