U. of New Hampshire Turns to Layoffs as Buyouts Fail to Close Budget Gap - Chronicle of Higher Ed

Unable to deal with a budget deficit solely through buyouts, the University of New Hampshire has laid off 21 faculty and staff members, the Union Leader reports. The newspaper says 82 staff members and 28 faculty members accepted buyouts, but that was not enough to close a budget gap resulting from a $32.5-million cut in the university’s state appropriation, an amount equal to nearly half of its state support.
