Glendora's Citrus College temporarily shuts down child-care center, employees laid off - Maritza Velazquez, SGVN

A child care center at Citrus College that serves more than 150 children is temporarily shutting down at the end of the semester due to declining revenues, the college's board of trustees decided Tuesday. As a result of the June 15 closure, 23 Citrus College classified employees will be laid off. "This is a very difficult time for us with the budget situation the way it is," board President Joanne Montgomery said before the unanimous vote. The center, which serves the children of many Citrus College students, is funded through the California Department of Education. The department has slashed its allocation to the program by 42 percent cumulatively over the last two years, according to Carol Horton, the college's vice president of finance and administrative services.
