CSUB faculty to meet with president to talk budget - KGET

The mere talk of a budget has some college professors on edge. "A large proportion of our budget is spent on people so therefore of course people are afraid," said Dr. Andreas Gebauer, chemistry professor at California State University Bakersfield. Gebauer heads a budget task force for CSUB faculty members. The group's goal is to make sure the values and priorities of faculty are included in the upcoming school year's budget. The university faces a budget deficit of more than $5 million if Governor Jerry Brown's tax hike initiative doesn't pass in November. In order to make sure faculty members don't end up on the losing end of the budget if it the tax proposal fails to get enough votes, CSUB professors will meet with President Horace Mitchell on Tuesday morning in his conference room. But the meeting is not going to be a screaming match, Gebauer ensures it will be a dialogue of ideas.
