Demonstrators disrupt Board of Regents budget meeting - Jens Manuel Krogstad, Des Moines Register

More than 150 students, faculty and parents demonstrated at today’s Iowa Board of Regents meeting. Demonstrators silently held signs such as “Board of Betrayal” and “Regents of Mass Destruction” during the meeting. At a press conference afterward, they at times cut off, booed and shouted at university officials. The planned closure of UNI’s Malcolm Price Laboratory School, the elimination of about one-fifth of academic programs and buyout offers to more than 40 tenured faculty have drawn steady criticism since their announcement this spring. University officials have said the measures are necessary to close a $5 million budget gap.
