LSU-Alexandria, Central La. State Hospital in crosshairs of modified budget - Mike Hasten, the Town Talk

The future of Louisiana State University at Alexandria and Central Louisiana State Hospital in Pineville both could be in jeopardy if the Louisiana Senate approves the budget passed last week by the House, officials said Monday. The Senate Committee was told Monday that state colleges and universities are looking at taking a funding hit of more than $200 million while health care could lose as much as $500 million if the House version of the budget was enacted. Acting LSU System President William Jenkins told the Senate committee Monday that the cuts threaten the survival of LSU-Alexandria, along with LSU facilities in Shreveport.
