Wyoming may cut $400,000 from athletics budget - THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

The University of Wyoming Athletics Department could see cuts in scholarships, recruiting, team travel and other costs under a proposed budget reduction plan. Gov. Matt Mead has ordered state agencies to prepare for 8 percent budget for the fiscal year beginning in July 2013 because of falling energy revenue. UW stands to lose $15.7 million if its state funding is reduced by 8 percent. The athletics department budget would get about $400,000 less. While it's too soon to tell exactly what the cuts would be, UW Athletics Department spokesman Tim Harkins says slashing the travel budget may force Cowboys sports teams to schedule games closer to home.
