Highly regarded as one of the best public university school systems, the University of California schools are threatened with heavy cuts to education if Governor Brown’s proposed tax increases are not approved by the California legislature this year.
The schools have been forced to cut their budgets for years now, and with the prospect of even more cuts ahead, school officials worry about the quality of education they are going to be able to offer students in the future. Timothy White, chancellor of the University of California, Riverside, said, “I’d be lying if I said what we offer students hasn’t been changed and that there hasn’t been a degradation of the learning environment.”
