Student groups hope for lower UW tuition increase - NICO SAVIDGE, Wisconsin State Journal

Some University of Wisconsin student groups are trying to soften the blow of higher education costs after system President Kevin Reilly recommended raising tuition at all UW campuses by 5.5 percent Monday. The UW Board of Regents will discuss Reilly's proposal, which would bring the annual cost of tuition at UW-Madison over $10,000 for in-state students for the first time, at its meeting Thursday. But some student groups are hoping they can convince the regents to accept a smaller tuition increase, according to The Daily Cardinal. Associated Students of Madison Vice Chair Maria Giannopoulos told the Cardinal that members of the UW-Madison student government will travel to Thursday's meeting in Milwaukee to recommend a 4.6 percent bump in tuition costs.
